After
watching the film Dive I was very surprised of how much food is being wasted by
the grocery stores. I kept thinking of
all the people in the world who are going without food. Couldn’t the grocery stores just give the
food away? There are plenty of charities
and organizations that will gladly take the food off their hands.
There
are so many people struggling today. The
way the economy is with job losses, some families are trying to find jobs just
to put food on the table. It is sad that
people have to resort to going through dumpsters to get food. I
think the dumpster diving is a solution to help with that struggling. I think if I ever was in that situation I
would definitely do what is necessary to feed my family. I wonder what made the people in the video
decide to look into dumpsters to see if there was food. Even
more shocking is how some of the grocery stores are locking their dumpsters to
keep people from taking the food out and to let it rot. Rotting food is not good for the environment.
It got me thinking of how I may be able to help
and do for people in this situation. First of all I will pledge to not waste
food. I also want to try to be more
aware of what I throw out and start a compost of food scraps, recycle, and
watch what I put in the trash that goes to landfills
